The Master of Social Work at Ana G. Méndez University is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) Board of Accreditation (BOA).

Accreditation of a social work program by the BOA indicates that it meets or exceeds standards of program quality evaluated through a peer review accreditation process. An accredited program has sufficient resources to meet its mission and goals, and the BOA has verified that it demonstrates compliance with all accreditation standards. Accreditation applies to all program options, which include locations and delivery methods. Accreditation provides reasonable assurance about the quality of the program and the competence of students graduating from the program.

Introduction

The program prepares students for Social Work practice with a clinical specialization, based on the accreditation standards of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The students will be able to contribute with their leadership and guidance to programs and services for vulnerable populations in the United States of America and other societies across the world.

Defining Social Work

Social Work is an applied discipline that promotes equity, social and political justice and the well-being of human and social systems.

Clinical Social Work

Clinical Social Work applies theories and methods in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of individual, family and group conditions.

Curriculum

Program Duration

The program may take from two to four years depending on course load.

Course Modality

Courses are offered Monday through Friday at night and Saturdays during the day.

Supervised Practice

• Three internships of 300 hours each.
• The second and third internships emphasize clinical skills.

Admission Requirements

1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
2. Minimum GPA of 2.75.
3. Interview.
4. Essay.

Advanced Standing Requirements

• Degree from a CSWE-accredited program.
• Minimum GPA of 3.00.
• Major courses passed with a grade of A or B.
• Field Practice completed with a grade of A.
• Degree completed within the last five years.

Transfer Policy

AGMU will accept up to 27 transfer credits from CSWE-accredited programs.

• Official transcripts must be submitted within 45 days.
• Credits are evaluated by the Registrar.
• The final decision is made by the Academic Affairs Dean.

Residency Requirements

Students must complete at least 25% of their credits at AGMU.
